September 19 Meeting

The Abegweit Branch of the United Empire Loyalists Association of Canada is pleased to announce that the Rev. Dr. Becket Soule will be the guest speaker at its next meeting on September 19th at 6:30 pm at the Charlottetown Rotary Club Boardroom in the Charlottetown Public Library. The meeting is open to the Public. Admission is free. Donations to the Abegweit Branch Speakers’ Fund are appreciated.

The title of his presentation, “Loyal Then — Loyal Now: The Fannings of North Carolina and the Maritimes,” focuses on General Edmund Fanning, second Governor of the Island of St. John, is Becket Soule has taught classical languages, law, theology, and history at The Catholic University of America, the Dominican House of Studies (Washington, DC), the Pontifical College Josephinum (Columbus, OH), and Oxford University, and has retired as Professor of Canon Law at St Paul University in Ottawa, Ontario. Becket is descended from a dozen Mayflower passengers and is Deputy Governor and Elder of the Canadian Mayflower Society, and Secretary and Historian of the NC Mayflower Society, as well as editor of The Descendants of George Soule of the Mayflower and The Descendants of Philip Delano of the Fortune (1621). He is a member of the Society of Colonial Wars and the Guy Carleton Chapter of the United Empire Loyalist Association, and serves on the Board of Directors of Soule Kindred in America and Delano Kindred. Members of the public who are interested in Island history are welcome to attend.
